Abstract

Corrosion of zinc caused by modern detergents. A corrosion test with good reproducibility and conditions largely approximating to those in practice is described, and special reference is made to the importance of changing the suds. The hardness of the water influences corrosion of zinc on the one hand in such a way that with rising hardness of water the corrosion decreases and, on the other hand, through the nature of the hardness‐forming substances, cations having a very much stronger inhibiting effect than Mg ions.
