Abstract

PRE‐PREPARED!. Most domestic appliances made today are stove enamelled or vitreous enamelled, involving several processes after an appliance has been fabricated. With developments over the last 20 years, quite thin coatings of this type with lessened chemical vulnerability are possible, largely because of improvements in frits and resins. Nevertheless, there is a large tie‐up of capital involved in the application of this form of protection and, with the availability nowadays of the plastic‐coated steels which can be fabricated with their ‘built‐in’ corrosion protection, one wonders just how far this type of material will ‘invade’ the territories usually covered by the older and more established methods. Certainly there is great potential for so convenient and versatile a material.
