Abstract

NICKEL Oxidation of high‐purity nickel between 950° and 1,200°C. Studies of high‐purity nickel in the 900 to 1,200°C. range, by metallo‐graphic and inert‐marker techniques, showed the oxide scale to consist of two distinct layers. Consideration of the temperature‐dependence of the growth of the individual layers, and the position of the inert markers, led to the conclusion that diffusion of cations through the outer layer is rate‐determining in the oxidation of nickel in this temperature range.
