Abstract
Nickel brighteners. Sulphonated di‐benzothiophene‐dioxide is alleged to be an effective secondary brightener for use in a number of nickel‐plating baths. When used in conjunction with a primary brightener, mirror‐bright deposits can apparently be obtained, e.g. using 2–6 g/ litre. It is synthesised by sulphonating diphenyl with sulphuric acid (20% oleum) for 2 hr. Compatibility of the new compound with other brighteners is good, for example 2‐mercaptobenzimidazole, diethylenetriamine and triphenylmethane. (910,324—Metal Thermit Corp., U.S.A.)
