Abstract

IRON IN FLUORIDES Corrosion in sodium tetraborate. Corrosion was studied in this melt in the presence of fluorides of lithium, sodium, potassium and calcium. It is known that adhesion of enamel to a metal surface is closely related to corrosion of the metal in enamel or the like at high temperature. This has been studied for loss of steel in silicate and borate enamels; but the mechanism of corrosion in enamel melts is still obscure. Some theories in explanation have been based on presence of water in the melt.
