Abstract

Corrosion of galvanized nail plates in treated timber. An interesting report came to our attention in the December 1984 issue of BRE News of Construction Research on the effect of timber preservatives on the corrosion rate of galvanised nail plates. It concerned a survey of trussed rafter roofs conducted last year by BRE to identify possible problems in service indicated that some corrosion of galvanised nail plates can occur. It was generally more advanced in timber treated with copper‐chrome‐arsenic (CCA) preservative than in untreated timber.
