Abstract

Many sign box cases house expensive electronic equipment that requires protection'. Some of them operate as hazard warning installations in dangerous areas where system failure would be catastrophic. Consequently the protection against the ingress of a corroding mist of water, acidic or saline vapour towards these vital internal electronic parts is vital. Seals can often be the weak link in these situations. Sign cases are sometimes made from badly fitting sheet metal constructions in which uneven pressure is applied to any seal material resulting in highly stressed areas. The location of signs are in such a wide range of environmental situations that compatability between atmosphere/seal material is particularly important.
