Abstract

ELECTROPLATING Effect of ultrasonic vibration. The effect of ultrasonic vibration on electroplating of zinc from cyanide solution was investigated. It was found possible to extend the upper limit of permissible current density up to 11 A/dm2 at temperature of 15°–20°. Rate of deposition was 1.5–2 µ/min. Rise of bath temperature to 30°–40° permitted increase in cathodic c.d. to 20 A/dm2; also higher current yield. It was found by the metallographic method that the formation of finely‐crystalline and lustrous coatings is facilitated in this way without use of brightening additives. It was found further that the most uniform ultrasonic field is produced by the simultaneous inclusion of four vibrators: two in the bottom of the tank, and two near the front wall of same according to position of workpiece.
