The Small Press Dilemma
Abstract
In what has apparently become a tradition, Library Journal in its December 15 issue annually presents a “Small Press Roundup,” which purports to list and briefly annotate the 100 or so “best” titles issued by the nation's small or independent publishers. The only thing different about the 1984 Roundup was that it appeared in the November 15 issue; otherwise it followed the patterns established in earlier Roundups, with selections heavily weighted toward what might be described as “literary” small press offerings, which are not necessarily representative of the majority of what is produced by small press publishers at all.
