Abstract

Ladies and gentlemen. You know better than I that among the attributes that qualify me for the position that I occupy tonight, a knowledge of information science is not numbered. I can claim a certain acquaintance with science, but this I am afraid is on what the Royal Society quaintly calls the B side, with its strong flavour of the Second XI. Some members of HMG have even been heard to speak of science and biology. Perhaps when they receive an injection of penicillin they may be brought to realize that biology has a sting in its tail or can at least provide one. Well, whatever my classification, I can still claim some acquaintance with science.
