The Big Dyle et Bacalan D.B.70: Details of a New 28‐Passenger Transport Monoplane With a Thick Wing Central Body and Twin Fuselages

Abstract

THE Société Aérienne Bordelaisc of Bordeaux (formerly the Société Anonyme des Travaux Dyle et Bacalan) have recently assembled and tested their new 28‐passenger transport plane at the Champ d'Aviation do Mérignac. The D.B.70, like all Dyle et Bacalan machinery, is characterised by its large central body in the form of a thick wing, in which are accommodated the passengers and the crew and to which are attached the outer wings, the engine mountings, the two fuselages, and landing gear. The centre section of the new machine, designed by M. L. de Monge, is of particular interest, since it embodies a somewhat similar application of the principle employed in the new Junkers J‐38, recently completed in Germany. The D.B.70 is derived from the D.B.10, a twin‐engined night bomber, and, like all Dyle et Bacalan machines, is built mainly of duralumin, with high tensile steel in parts of the frames, covered with duralumin sheet throughout.
