A Stainless Steel Amphibian: An American Adaptation of the Savoia‐Marchetti S.31 of All‐Metal Spot‐Welded Construction

Abstract

THE Edward G. Budd Manufacturing Co. has completed successful test flights with a new type of aircraft, designed by the engineering staff of the American Aeronautical Corporation, a subsidiary of the Dayton Airplane Engine Co., under the direction of Enea Bossi, who possesses the Italian Pilot's Flying Certificate No. 2. The new aeroplane is the B.B.1, a four‐seater open‐cockpit amphibian of the Savoia‐Marchetti type, entirely constructed of spot‐welded stainless steel, fitted with a 210‐h.p. Kinner engine.
