Abstract
In an evaporative cooling system in which liquid is circulated through the cylinder jackets and piping a5, a2 by a pump a3, and vapour is collected in a dome a6 and conveyed to a condenser b, the condensate is returned by an injector e in a subsidiary cooling‐liquid circuit comprised by piping c, c1. This circuit also includes two coolers d, formed as narrow rectangular vessels extending in the direction of flight, from which the liquid passes by a pipe d1 to the injector nozzle f submerged in the condensate, the apparatus being connected by a flexible connection fa to the pipe c1. The condensate flows, when the temperature is sufficiently high to influence a bi‐metalic strip j1 to open a. valve h, to a further pair of coolers g2 also formed as narrow rectangular vessels and connected to the coolers d by fins i, and past a non‐return valve h1 to the chamber surrounding the nozzle f.
