Abstract

THE three Martin medium bombers used by the R.A.F., the Maryland, Baltimore and Marauder, represent interesting stages in the development of this class of aeroplane. The earliest type, the Maryland, was originally built for the French and is roughly equivalent to our Bristol Blenheim IV. The next stage, the Baltimore, was developed for the R.A.F., and can be roughly compared with the Beaufort; while the last type, the Marauder, was designed for the U.S. Army Air Forces as the B‐26 and represents a much larger load‐carrying capacity. The first two types have been used very successfully by the R.A.F. in the African campaigns, while the Marauder has been operated in the Australian theatre by the U.S. Army Air Forces.
