Abstract

INCREASING use of fully powered controls has placed emphasis on aircraft hydraulic equipment, and the design and manufacture of such equipment has become a very specialized branch of engineering. We recently had the opportunity of visiting the works at Speke, near Liverpool, of the Aircraft Division, Automotive Products Co. Ltd., who are of course the manufacturers of Lockheed hydraulic equipment. This factory is engaged on the manufacture of under‐carriage legs, hydraulic pumps, and jacks and controls for a variety of purposes. Development work is also going on on the production problems of guided weapons. Some indication of the scope of these activities is given by FIGS. 1–3. Among aircraft equipped with Lockheed hydraulics are the Comet IV, D.H. 110 (Sea Vixen), Folland Gnat, Viscount and Sud‐Est Caravelle.
