Abstract

Any pilot who has flown a jet aircraft will be conversant with the difficulties experienced in reading cockpit instruments under the greatly increased contrast of light and shade existing at tropopause levels and above, and with the difficulties of searching for, finding and judging the distance from other aircraft at the high altitudes experienced today.
