Abstract

A wingless aircraft has an elongated streamlined fuselage. This fuselage comprises fore and aft parts, the fore part having a fore air duct, and the aft part having an aft air duct. The first and second air‐propelling means are mounted in the fore and after air ducts respectively. The fore air duct has a first inlet facing forward, the first inlet being a major portion of the front profile of the aircraft. The fore part has a side outlet for terminating the fore air duct, the walls of the fore air duct being streamlined and gradually curved such that a stream of air from the first air‐propelling means is directed from the side outlet rearwardly and outwardly at the proper angle for substantially sustaining the aircraft in horizontal forward flight. The fore part tapers inwardly toward the rear, and the aft air duct has a second inlet substantially encircling the rear tapering portion of the fore part so that the second air‐propelling means effectively draws air rearwardly over the outer surface of the fore part. The aft air duct extends longitudinally through the aft part and has a rear outlet that faces rearwards. A plurality of lateral trim‐control air‐deflecting vanes and a fore‐to‐aft roll flap are mounted across the side outlet, and a rudder and an elevator are mounted across the rear outlet.
