Abstract

This book should prove a valuable addition to libraries of both student and teacher. That the author brings to his task a wealth of teaching experience is evident from the fact that the book has grown round an extensive course of undergraduate lectures delivered over periods of three years in the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Birmingham. It often happens that works, compiled in this manner (and this one is no exception), are marked by a special clarity of expression and logical development, since the writer is not only well acquainted with undergraduate difficulties but has also inevitably encountered those searching student cross‐examinations which, though painful at first, can only lead to a progressive clarification of his thinking and presentation.
