Abstract

THE decision to appoint specialist Reliability Engineers for the Belfast programme was taken during its early phases, even though there were no specific military or civil reliability requirements in being at that time. The need for reliability studies to be made of all system components became evident with the realization that the preceding generation of transport aircraft had proved to be less reliable in several respects than was commercially or militarily acceptable.
