Abstract

A Selection of Equipment of Use in the Production and Maintenance of Aircraft, Missiles, Space Vehicles and their Components. The difficulties of attaching fine wires and thermocouples to test specimens has led to the development by the Research and Development Division of the United Power Company Ltd., Research & Development Division, Cranford Lane, Hounslow, Middx., of a special machine for this purpose. The initial requirement was to weld Chromcl/Alumcl thermocouples reliably to magnesium alloy specimens in the form of fuel cans for nuclear reactors, but it has proved possible by variation of arc power and impact to successfully weld materials such as Chronic! and/or Alumcl to stainless steel, stainless to stainless, platinum thermocouples to steel or aluminium alloys and many other combinations.
