Abstract

Mention the word frontier today and the connotation is almost certainly American. The ‘frontiers of space’ is a phrase which we have become accustomed to hearing fall freely from the lips of United States politicians and engineers, and it was the late President Kennedy who campaigned for a spirit of the ‘New Frontier’ among young Americans.
