Abstract

The B.A.C. One‐Eleven has carried a total of half‐million passengers in its first six months of service in Europe and the U.S.A. which was completed on October 25. The aircraft entered airline service on April 9, 1965, with British United Airways and in America on April 25 with Braniff International. Aer Lingus International started their first service on June 3, and it entered service with the second North American carrier to use it, Mohawk Airlines, on July 15. Total hours flown to date are over 30,000 (of which about 3,450 hours have been completed by B.A.C. on its own test, development, crew‐training and route‐proving programmes). With 29 aircraft currently in service the flying hours are being increased by about 1,400 per week. Total orders to date are 84, with 23 options, by eleven different carriers. Three of the total, with one on option, are orders from executive operators.
