Abstract

CIVIL Aviation authorities throughout the world have introduced, or are in the process of introducing, legislation which requires passenger‐carrying aircraft operators to install a flight data recording device. The recorder will monitor a number of parameters which, it is felt, would be an aid to accident investigation procedures; in addition it will have to survive the environmental conditions which would exist in the event of an aircraft crash. Regulations differ from country to country, but in general the American Federal Aviation Agency, the British Air Registration Board, and the Canadian Department of Transport set the standard.
