Abstract

CLAIMED TO BE the quietest jet in the world, the VFW‐614 is a twin‐jet low wing aircraft specifically designed for economic short‐haul operations on low density routes. With its turbofans located on the wing aft of the wing rear spar and mounted on pylons, the VFW‐614 disposes a configuration which can be adopted by those airlines who, on the one hand, need a short‐haul jet to supplement their present fleet and those, on the other, who need to modernise their fleet. Short block times resulting from high block speeds are, in any event, prerequisites for profitable short‐haul operation. The VFW‐614 attains its high block speed by excellent climb performance, high cruising speed at all cruising altitudes and optimum descent profiles.
