Abstract

A bonded, dry lubricant coating containing molybdenum disulphide and corrosion inhibitors in a thermo‐setting binder is being used to reduce galling and fretting of compressor hub slots and blade roots in Pratt & Whitney JT4, JT8D, and JT9D jet engines. The material, Molykote bonded lubricant from Dow Corning, was adopted after extensive testing established that its resistance to fretting wear and corrosion was superior to other lubricant coatings approved for the same service.
