Abstract

THE modern airport is confronted with the multiple problems of staffing, increasing costs, and continuous change. Staffing difficulties extend not only to finding suitable people and training them, but also to retaining them after this initial period. The surge in fuel costs has forced airlines to reassess their entire operations, with a chain‐reaction of similar upheavals throughout the entire industry. Rapid change has been exemplified by the quick acceptance of wide‐bodied aircraft which forced reorganization and rebuilding of major portions of airports.
