Abstract

Despite the large number of specialist companies producing plastic mouldings of various types, as well as those specialising in aircraft glazing, most homebuilders of aircraft find that obtaining satisfactory canopies for their creations is a difficult problem. The small production numbers involved are not sufficient to interest companies, or if they are, the price is usually beyond the reach of the amateur aircraft builder. An aircraft canopy requires to be a high quality product, with good optical characteristics, and for a production run requires a capital investment which inevitably makes the price unacceptable for homebuilders.
