Abstract
The rapid acceleration of the opening up of vast tracts of sparsely populated areas in many parts of the world for development and exploration of natural resources necessitates the most speedy and efficient transport communications to the forward base areas. In most circumstances, by nature of terrain and otherwise virtual inaccessibility, the only method is by air. Thus, airstrips, small airports and helipads have been built to accommodate the air traffic serving such areas and their presence is growing in increasing numbers.
