Assessing Rocket Motor Materials

Abstract

There can be few applications of engineering materials which are more demanding than the construction of rocket motors. Even by aerospace standards their life is short, while the loads imposed are extremely high. Moreover, performance testing tends to be difficult and expensive, yet very high standards of reliability are called for because failures may have catastrophic consequences.
