Abstract

A FULLY‐AUTOMATIC manufacturing cell capable of operating unattended for long periods in the machining of aircraft turbine blades has been designed, manufactured and commissioned for Rolls‐Royce Ltd, by Amchem Co Ltd. The cell consists of three identical electrical discharge machines, a carousel that stores cassettes of electrodes, an ultrasonic cleaning unit, and an inspection machine, all of which can be serviced by a single robot that carries out all the material transfer operations and tool changing.
