Abstract

A prototype aircraft access door has been designed and fabricated by Boeing Aerospace Compny using Ryton polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) woven carbon fabric prepreg sheeting supplied by the Advanced Composites Division of Phillips Petroleum Company. Substantial weight reduciton vs. metal construction and cost savings over thermoset composite fabrication were achieved.
