Abstract

Helicopter pilots carrying out search and rescue missions in zero visibility or a force eight gale rely totally on their electronic flight control systems. Few of those pilots, however, are aware that their remarkable safety record is due in part to the work of Pam Smith, one of the most outstanding systems engineers in the field of helicopter flight control. This week, Pam's achievements over the past 22 years have been recognised with the award of an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
