Abstract

HAM WT is the in‐house abbreviation for one of the world's most advanced aircraft engine repair shops. EB (electron beam) welding is one of the key technologies used here. “We know of only four airlines who own an EB welding system; we are the only ones in central Europe”, says Klaus Reinecken, welding engineer at the repair shop of Deutsche Lufthansa AG in Hamburg. He adds, “In addition to repairing our own fleet's engines, we also overhaul those of other airlines. Another source of income is contract EB welding in the job shop — for customers in industry.”
