Abstract

Introduction For the past two years we have been considering how best to revise British Library (BL) policies on the distribution of our MARC databases. The existing policy is one of close control based on the sale of records by BLAISE and a very limited number of other professional agencies, and has been made obsolescent by the important changes taking place both in the technology of data storage and distribution and in the structure of the library automation ‘industry’ in Britain.
