Abstract

Book Data has existed as a company producing bibliographic records for the publishing industry since 1987 but it has taken some time for its actual and potential value to impact on the library community. An earlier article in VINE outlined the position at the end of 1988. Of particular interest at that stage was the service Book Data offered of providing CIP data to the British Library on behalf of contracted publisher customers.
