Abstract

The use of trichloroethylene as a solvent, or thinner, in industrial surface coatings is not new. Chlorinated solvents were first used as resin thinners 30 years ago and the first ICI ‘Trilac’ clear resin solution in trichloroethylene was developed and marketed in 1957. Now ‘Trilac’ coatings are widely used in industry for protecting metal articles against corrosion and scratching and as a lubricant in metal forming operations.
