Abstract

The IRVING Library Network provides a state‐of‐the‐art design, using a distributed packet switched network which implements parts of the Open System Interconnection (OSI) Reference Model as defined by the International Standards Organization. It also provides a gateway to other networks, without disturbing local host systems. It creates a network language which can be considered a model for application throughout the library community.
