Abstract

The Alice‐B system at Tacoma (WA) Public Library supports a variety of public service and reference features. The system database is distributed on CD‐ROMs, which are attached to numerous PC workstations. The workstations are linked to an online circulation system to determine copy status and facilitate related functions. Special emphasis is given to authority control as well as keyword access. Powerful information handling techniques and contemporary interface designs are incorporated in the system.
