Abstract

The use of colour for the identification of pipelines, in factories, has been in use for a number of years and three British Standards have been published dealing with the subject. Certain anomolies, however, have arisen, and the present one co‐ordinates requirements. This B.S. replaces B.S.457 “Identification of chemical pipe lines”, B.S.617 “Identification of pipes, conduits, ducts and cables in buildings”, and B.S.3011 “Identification colours for engine room piping”, but it does not supersede the B.S. dealing with gas cylinders and medical gas cylinders nor does it affect B.S.158 which deals with colour identification of switchgear bus‐bars and connections and wire.
