Abstract

The problem of overcoming leakage of oil, or other liquid, in any hydraulic system is a real one and this is especially true in the case of air and oil filled hydraulic railway buffers. In these buffers, a seal has to be provided between the moving piston and its housing and this seal must, at the same time, with‐stand the high pressures which are suddenly applied when the buffer is under impact.
