Abstract

A NEW machine for honing finished ground bearing rings has been developed by the General Bearings Division of Ransome Hoffmann Pollard Ltd., at Newark. The eventual performance and wear charateristics of bearings is very much bound up with surface finish and the cost of this process bears a relation to the final cost of the bearings. This machine, which is fully automatic, has increased production by from 100 to 200%, depending on the size of the bearings. It allows a greater surface area to be honed than the previous machine which was similar in other respects but had a slower honing speed.
