HELICAL GROOVES IMPROVE RING SEAL PERFORMANCE

Abstract

IT has been shown by Ludwig and Strom (Lewis Research Center) that a simple modification to the conventional segmented circumferential shaft seal can overcome leakage problems, and especially those associated with the use of these seals in aircraft transmission systems.
