Abstract

SEVERE lubrication demands of modern base‐loaded turbine generators with outputs up to 1,000 megawatts, have led to the development of turbine oils with special qualities, which must be maintained in optimum condition at all times. Reservoirs of 20,000 gallons (90,000 litres) are not uncommon, and this oil is subject to contamination or deterioration by water, heat, particulate matter (mostly pipe scale) and contact with metal parts.
