Abstract

DURING the Apollo Space Programme, Omar Sultan, a physicist working for Honeywell had the task of investigating lubricants suitable for operation in vacuo, and at extreme temperatures and pressures. His research covered a wide range of lubricants but his interest was drawn to the use of a thin metallic film as a lubricating surface.
