Abstract

Getting the best performance from any company's resources, especially people, can be a headache at the best of times. Making sure that each employee is productive, so that the company is productive, is a key task of all managers and practising specialists. This is especially critical in today's troubled economic climate where companies are being forced to cut back on staffing levels and where employees are often fully stretched in coping with the work that has to be done. Add to this the frequently made comparisons between the performance of UK companies and those of our main competitors, and you find that our productivity and performance levels are lagging quite severely behind. Clearly there is a need to improve performance, but how? This article puts forward an alternative approach to those adopted in the past. It is based on a detailed analysis of performance put forward in a recent publication.
