Corrosion Notebook

Abstract

Four new stainless steel standards of the 18Cr‐8Ni type are now available in disc form for use primarily in calibrating optical emission and x‐ray spectrometric analytical equipment. These standards (sec table), issued by the NBS Office of Standard Reference Materials, US Department of Commerce, are used for quality control in production and for consumer acceptance testing. Such steels have, of course, a wide variety of industrial and commercial applications where corrosion resistance is paramount but where strength is also required.
