Abstract

Given the degree of interest which is developing in issues such as the “North‐South divide”, data drawn from recent workplace industrial relations surveys are re‐examined in order to analyse whether there is a regional variation in union recognition. Some evidence is found to support this notion, although that has to be qualified in relation to Scotland and north‐west England. It is hoped this will stimulate further research investigating regional differences.
