Abstract

This paper is concerned with analysing through a historical review some of the salient features of the productivity increase movement in Japan. Toward this end, the author would like to examine first the interrelationship between the so‐called ‘family system’ of labour management in Japanese enterprises and the productivity increase movement, then to consider the uniqueness of the productivity movement that stems from the special structural characteristics of the Japanese trade union organization.
