Abstract

The recession in British industry has put a number of companies out of business, but if there is one industry which has prospered during the past few years, it is that represented by the considerable amount of literature produced every day on the effects of the recession on British industry. Yet it is noteworthy that most of the analysis of the country's ills is based on the views of academicians and economic “gurus” rather than on properly researched data obtained from the market place.
