Abstract

During the last 30 years there has been rapid growth in our understanding of the significance of trace element deficiency as a cause of disease in animals. After early and spectacular achievements in the study of the importance of iron and iodine in human nutrition, progress in the study of the importance of other trace elements to man has been much slower. There are now signs that this situation is changing and that the health of man, like that of all other species, may be greatly influenced by the dietary supply of a wide range of trace elements.
